'Plus-size is a word we need to bury': Queen Latifah on why her HSN clothing line will be catering to all body shapes

So for her own fashion collection, which she is launching on the Home Shopping Network later this summer, will have no such definition.
In an interview announcing the launch of her Queen line she explained that she wanted to create something that represented all women.
She told WWD: 'I wanted to make something size two and up.
'The truth is, we all would like to wear the same clothes. We all want to wear beautiful, fly clothes no matter what size you are, and so for me it was important to match with a company that understood and respected that ideal.'
Of the term 'plus-size' she said: 'It is a word we need to bury at this point. It’s for all sizes.'
The singer and actress, 41, admitted that the reason she had not agreed to collaborate on a collection in the past was not for lack of opportunity.
'I felt like larger girls were not respected, even though we are huge consumers,' she explained.
'I felt the marketplace didn’t respect us in the way it should. I was not going to step out with a clothing line that didn’t respect a fuller-figured woman or a curvaceous woman, and really all women.'
Indeed the so-called plus-size market, which caters to women of a U.S. size 12 and up, represents 16 per cent of the country's $107.3 billion clothing industry.
She named Donna Karan and Marina Rinaldi among her top designers, but even some of her favourite labels, she revealed, did not offer as many sizes as she would like to see available.
'I love Ralph Lauren, just as a designer,' she said. 'I still think he could make some better sizes with his clothes, but I like the idea of his classic American style.'
The Queen collection, which launches on August 27, will be rather more accessibly priced, with all clothing under $100.
And designs really do promise a flattering fit for all body shapes, with softly-draped dresses and waterfall-neck jackets to jeans that unzip at the ankle and versatile knitted ponchos.
'I want to make clothing that I would wear myself,' she told the trade title. 'If the clothes are good enough for me, I think they are going to be good enough for everyone else.'
She has also designed accessories, including handbags and even clip-in hair extensions, which will command higher prices of up to $300.

'We will build this into what I hope to be a huge brand franchise, with things that I discovered throughout the world,' she said.
