Tottenham are poised to complete the signing of Emmanuel Adebayor on a season-long loan from Manchester City.
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp hopes to have the former Arsenal striker on board for his side's first game of the season against Manchester United on Monday.
All smiles: But Adebayor hasn't featured for Manchester City this season;
Adebayor, 27, earns £170,000 a week at Eastlands and his huge wages were a stumbling block to completing the deal.
Sportsmail revealed last month how Spurs were offering to pay £85,000 - 50 per cent - of the centre forward's weekly wage to secure his services.
Chief tormentor: Adebayor scored two goals against Tottenham last season;
And sources close to the deal have claimed a breakthrough had been made and Tottenham were confident of completing a deal before the end of the week. They also plan to revive their interest in West Ham midfielder Scott Parker.
City initially wanted Spurs to pay more than half Adebayor's wages, but their stance is understood to have weakened, such is their eagerness to shift at least some of the player's money off the wage bill.
