As the grand master of red carpet glamour it is little surprise that Oscar de la Renta was one of the most eagerly-anticipated shows at New York Fashion Week.
And the designer, 79, lived up to expectations with a spring/summer collection that seemed made for the red carpet.
Every piece was high on drama with full taffeta skirts that could barely make it down the runway without brushing the feet of front rowers including Nicki Minaj, Ashley Olsen, Justin Timberlake, Barbara Walters, Rachel Zoe, Anna Wintour and Daphne Guinness.

Bold strapless creations in chartreuse and poppy red were lifted by delicately embroidered lace tops, while slinkier gowns in tiers of chiffon were given a Twenties feel with heavy strands of glossy black beads.
Though eveningwear was the main focus, the designer had not forgotten his target market, and there was plenty to satisfy Upper East Side ladies who lunch and First Ladies (both past and current) alike.

Long-sleeved tweed suits and coat dresses, wide-legged sailor-style trousers and pussy-bow blouses promise to be surefire retail hits.
Miss FB " say ; HONGERA SANA DEAR.KAZI NI MUHIM SANA" Hand cut: Oscar de la Renta, immaculately dressed in a shirt and tie, at work in his studio
As always, many of Mr de la Renta's designs boasted almost couture-worthy embroidery. But if you imagine that he delegates to a team of tireless seamstresses, think again, as a photo posted on his Facebook page before the show saw the man himself - immaculately dressed in a shirt and tie - taking a pair of scissors to a piece of fabric in his studio.
The caption read: 'We don't use the term "hand cut" loosely.'
The only downside to the show was the models' hair. Star names including Arizona Muse, Karlie Kloss and Lindsey Wixson had their tresses styled flat on the top and frizzy at the ends - a look that can only be described as 'hat hair'.
But for the designer it was a fresh antidote to the 'wet look' that has been a favourite at so many other shows.
He explained to WWD: 'Every single girl who came to see me had hair that was plastered to their heads. It was so lacquered it was like cement.
'I said to them, "If you have a boyfriend, he wouldn’t want to touch your head with hair like that."'

The collection won high praise from the celebrity guests in attendance.
Nicki Minaj, who was dressed in a leopard-print leotard complete with matching hat, tweeted from the front row, where she had been seated next to Vogue editor Anna Wintour.
She wrote: 'Oscar De La Renta w/my date Anna Wintour again. Oscar is a very handsome man. So is Valentino.'
All-star cast: Front row guests included Justin Timberlake Rachel Zoe ,pictured with Elle's Joe Zee, and a leopard-clad Nicki Minaj who sat next to Anna Wintour;
New venue: The show, at the designer's 42nd Street showroom was one of the week's hottest tickets
Later, on seeing the collection, she added: 'OMFG! Someone get me an ambulance. Upon seeing Oscar De La Renta’s new line, I’m #!@%*#ing GAGGING!!!!!!!'
Singer-turned-actor-turned-designer Justin Timberlake summed up the feel of the new line perfectly, adding to Styleite: 'When you come to see Oscar’s show, you’re looking for romance.'
Tomorrow is the final day of New York Fashion Week, which will conclude with shows from Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Marc Jacobs.
