Manchester United have been the most powerful force in English football for a generation.

And the current players have taken time out of their American tour to visit one of the great seats of world power.

Fresh from beating an MLS All Star team 4-0 in New Jersey on Wednesday night, Sir Alex Ferguson and his squad paid a visit to the White House on Thursday afternoon.

The squad, who were given a special tour of the iconic building, posed for a picture on the steps outside.

US president Barack Obama was unable to meet the United party, however, as the deadlock over America's $14.3trillion national debt reached crisis point, but Ferguson said: 'It was fantastic. Fascinating.

'I've been before but it's such an historic and incredible place. We all enjoyed it.'

The Barcelona squad also visited the White House but were prevented from jogging on the famous lawn by security staff.

United boss Ferguson, who has always taken a keen interest in politics and world affairs, looked particularly pleased on the visit, and posed for a picture under a picture of the 13th President of the United States, Millard Fillmore.

Star defender Rio Ferdinand posted a picture of him inside, along with the message: 'Me chilling in the 'State Dinning Room' no sign of any tea bags!!'

Later, he complained that other pictures he took had been removed.

He also posted the message: 'My pic of the security was removed quick, rapido, sharpish, fast....they don't play here in DC...I feel like I'm on 24 right now #baffled.'

US president Barack Obama was unable to meet the United party as the deadlock over America's $14.3trillion national debt reached crisis point.

Striker Michael Owen said on Twitter: 'Had a tour around The White House.

'Unfortunately never met The President as he was locked in meetings but a great experience all the same.'

The Barcelona squad also visited the White House but were prevented from jogging on the famous lawn by security staff.

United players have made it in good time to Washington, ahead of their clash with the European champions on Sunday.

After that match, the squad will fly home and prepare for the start of the new domestic season, which will begin with the Community Shield against neighbours Manchester City at Wembley on August 7.

She became a grandmother for the third time this month, but Ivana Trump clearly has no intention of dressing like one.

The 62-year-old, who has long preferred a youthful wardrobe, opted for bright turquoise ensemble in St Tropez today.

She strutted confidently through the streets in the flirty frock, which featured a hemline usually favoured by women less than half her age.

With her peroxide blonde hair, deep tan and bright pink lipstick, she appeared eager to look more like Paris Hilton than pension age.

Of course, her ex husband Donald Trump, 65, is not exactly your typical grandfather either.

Today he was busy posing up with young beauty queens at a Miss Universe Organization photocall in New York.

It's not clear if Ivana, who has been holidaying in the South of France in recent weeks, has met her new grandchild.

Her daughter Ivanka, 29, and husband Jared Kushner welcomed their first child, Arabella on July 17.

The Apprentice star is already trying to juggle work and motherhood, writing on Twitter this week: 'Ventured into the office for a few hours today but raced home to see Arabella this evening. I'm already experiencing separation anxiety!'

Ivana is also grandmother to her son Donald Jr's two children Kai, 4, and Donald John Trump III, 2.

*MKILETEWA HAPA NA FLORA LYIMO DESIGNER*

In 1994, on a normal day in his military job, Erik Holler discovered a lump under his left nipple.

Though thankfully not cancer, the small lump instead turned out to be the earliest stages of gynaecomastia, or male breast growth - and the beginning of a difficult condition that led to life-changing surgery.

As Holler learnt, while they're the butt of many a teasing joke, male breasts can be a debilitating condition.

Laying it bare: Eric Holler first noticed his gynecomastia in 1994 when at boot camp. The condition affected his self-confidence

Laying it bare: Erik Holler first noticed his gynecomastia in 1994 when on military boot camp. The condition affected his self-confidence;

Now Holler is speaking up about living with the problem and openly sharing his transformational surgery with the hope that it will help other men.

30 per cent of boys experience breast swelling during puberty and gynaecomastia in adult males is more common than many may imagine.

The most common causes of male breast growth, says ABC, are obesity, hormones and drug side-effects, but gynaecomastia differs to, say, fatty tissue gain in that the growth is the same - and as permanent - as that in women's breasts;

In gynaecomastia, cells grow and dirtribute themselves so that the male breast takes on the shape and size of a female's. Holler's chest began to look anything but like his own.

'The left breast actually grew more,' he told ABC's Good Morning America, 'And then the right side started growing, too. And they expanded themselves to their current condition, which, I'd probably say, I'm at least an A cup -- at least.'

Admiring glance: Holler steals a look at his augmented chest during surgery. The less invasive procedure lasted three hours;

But now, advances in plastic surgery are making gynaecomastia treatable. Liposuction and lazer techniques mean that men can undergo breast reduction without the heavily invasive surgery that is usually associated with the procedure.

Holler's surgery, performed by Dr. Aaron Rollins in Beverly Hills, lasted about three hours and was followed with a course of hormones to further reduce swelling.

'They'll say something somewhat demeaning like, "Wow, pretty soon you're going to be borrowing your wife's bras"'

13 per cent of all plastic surgery in the U.S. last year was on males - an increase of five per cent in just a year and a half.

And, as the internet opens the lid on gynaecomastia, more men are coming forward for breast reduction surgery than ever before. In fact, says GMA, breast reduction is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures for men.

Gynaecomastia is known to affect confidence and make an impact on body image. Holler never took his shirt off in public.

He told GMA that family taunts hurt: 'They'll say something somewhat demeaning in some ways like, 'Wow, pretty soon you're going to be borrowing your wife's bras.'

It didn't help, though, that 'man-boobs' are the subject of many a popular joke, including Seinfeld's infamous 'manzier/bro' sketch.

Flat chested: The transformation has changed Holler's life, he now enjoys swimming and beach trips with his family for the first time since 1994

Flat chested: The transformation has changed Holler's life, he now enjoys swimming and beach trips with his family for the first time since 1994;

Dr. Julius Few, founder of the Few Institute for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in Chicago told GMA: 'The psychosocial impact is significant.

'Often, patients are subjected to wearing multiple tee shirts or being afraid to go swimming, even in warm weather.'

All that has now changed for Holler, who recently visited the beach for the first time in years - and who now enjoys swimming with his family in the pool.

Though Holler and his family are thrilled with the results, Kathy Holler, Eric's wife, says she always found her husband sexy. His insecurity made her realise that all bodies are imperfect.

'I could see his discomfort with it,' said the mother of three. 'And it made me love him more.'

*MKILETEWA HAPA NA FLORA LYIMO DESIGNER*

Eddie Murphy's love life has been as colourful as some of the characters he's played on screen.

With a marriage-that-never-was, a paternity battle and that infamous arrest with a transvestite prostitute it's safe to say that the comedy actor has had an interesting time so far.
So perhaps his latest outing with a mystery woman could be the start of something a little more placid.

The 50-year-old stepped out for dinner with the lady, who could have easily passed for his last 'wife' Tracey Edmonds.

Eddie, who is the voice of Donkey in the Shrek movies, hit Mastro's restaurant in Beverly Hills with the attractive woman.

She wore a flattering brown leather skirt, with a skimpy white blouse and beige peep toe heels.

At Mastro's, located on North Canon Drive, the speciality is steaks - which Eddie's date likely rejected in favour of something a little less fattening, judging by her figure.
According to their website Mastro's has been named one of the top 10 steakhouses in the U.S. by one reviewer, quite a feat considering it was only launched 12 years ago in 1999.
On the menu Eddie and his companion would have been able to choose from a variety of fish-based started including Alaskan red king crab claws and vanilla battered shrimp.

Eddie married music industry executive Tracey Edmonds in January 2008, but the wedding was annulled as the ceremony had been held on the Polynesian island of Bora Bora so was not legal under U.S. law.

They split two weeks later, saying they would remain friends.

Before Tracey, the comedian had a highly-publicised relationship with former Spice Girl Mel B.

However, he and Mel split with huge acrimony, with Eddie refusing to acknowledge that the child was his, saying that the were not in a exclusive relationship and insisting that she take a paternity test before he would acknowledge the child.

Murphy told a reporter at the time: 'I don't know whose child that is until it comes out and has a blood test. You shouldn't jump to conclusions, sir.'

And his first marriage was to model Nicole Mitchell.

The couple are parents to Bella, 9, Zola, 11, Shayne, 16, Myles, 18 and 21-year-old Bria.

Nicole and Murphy, 49, first met in 1988 and were together for five years before they married in 1993. They separated in 2006.

On May 2, 1997 Sheriff’s deputies in West Hollywood pulled over a Land Cruiser driven by Eddie Murphy after they observed a known pre-op transsexual prostitute get inside.

The incident occurred at 4:45 AM near the corner of Santa Monica Blvd. and Formosa Ave., an area popular with homosexual prostitutes.

Eddie explained that he'd had trouble sleeping and decided to drive to a newsstand to get something to read (which was later confirmed) before picking up a “Hawaiian-looking woman” and offering her a ride home.

The “woman,” Atisone Seuli, 20, told a slightly different story. She claimed Murphy offered her $200, confirmed she was a transsexual, and inquired about lingerie modeling and what kind of sex she liked.

Murphy was released by police after they decided he'd done nothing wrong.

The gold, silver and bronze medal designs were unveiled this evening as part of a party to celebrate one year until the Games begin.

The medal was designed by artist David Watkins and take a circular form which is intended to be a metaphor for the world. He said he was 'absolutely delighted' with the finished product.

The medals' unveiling came as thousands gathered in Trafalgar Square for a party to celebrate a year to go.

The event saw International Olympic Committee chief Jacques Rogge, alongside London Mayor Boris Johnson, officially inviting the 200 nations who will take part to the Games.

Music was provided by bands including The Feeling and a gospel choir, who performed a rendition of London Calling by The Clash.

Across the city, Olympic medal hopeful Tom Daley performed the first dive into the new pool where he will hope to win gold next year.

The 17-year-old said before performing a one and a half somersault with pike that the pool looked 'absolutely incredible'.

He added that it was every athletes dream to perform in front of their home crowd at a home Olympics.

It was day of celebration in London as figures from across the world of sport gathered at the locations across the city to mark the occasion, including at the newly finished aquatics centre.

Following the visit Mr Rogge declared himself 'a very happy man'after visiting the newly-completed centre.

He described the £269 million arena as .a masterpiece. and applauded London 2012 organisers for completing the last of the six main permanent Olympic Park venues 12 months ahead of the opening ceremony.

'The operational readiness is an important factor and that is because of the drive of the people who are delivering the Games. The team around Sebastian Coe (London 2012 chairman) and Paul Deighton (London 2012 chief executive) is really a good team.'

After testing out the water, swimmer David Davies, a silver medallist from the 2008 Beijing Olympics and a hot tip for 2012, said: 'It is that extra buzz because the thing that gets me is how far the stands go back. It is an amazing setting dropping on to a big stage.

'The roof is really impressive as well. There is something really unique about it. I definitely got the buzz when I first walked in and I can imagine all the Brits calling out for us here next year.

'This is better than the Cube. It's not because I'm British, it genuinely is.'

Asked how the home crowd will affect the British athletes, Cram said: 'It brings added pressure. Often when you go away to somewhere like Beijing, you probably haven't got family to worry about, getting tickets, getting them into venues.

'You haven't got all the media requests that you have with the home Games. So I think our athletes have to be prepared for that.

'But that, actually, I think, helps you perform even better, because it really gets you into the zone and what this is about.'

Sir Matthew said of the athletes one year before the Olympics: 'They'll all be thinking about honing their skills in a competitive environment and thinking about how they're going to qualify for the Games.'

Evans had accused the mother-of-two of seeing other men and had even tracked her daily movements with binoculars.

The pair were at home together watching afternoon TV when Evans became furious when Jackie refused his offer of a cup of tea.

He picked up a knife and plunged it into her neck, leaving her to die in a pool of blood on her living room floor.

The couple's son Carl found her body and ran out of the house shouting: 'My mother is stretched out. My father has stabbed my mother.'

Evans told police he and his wife had a 'silly row' over a cup of tea and he picked up a lock-knife to frighten her.

Swansea Crown Court heard Jackie suffered four deep stab wounds to the throat, one even penetrating the upper spine.

Evans, of Pontyberem, Carmarthenshire, denied murder claiming his wife's behaviour had made him lose control.

But he was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison with as recommendation he serves a minimum 11 years.

Judge Mr Justice Lloyd Jones told Evans: 'What happened was a spontaneous eruption of violence.

'Your wife's pointless death has cast a shadow over members of your family. The effect of what you have done has been devastating.'

A Dyfed Powys Police spokesman said after the case: 'This has been a very difficult time for the family and those close to them. Our thoughts remain with them.'

Speaking about Amy, who died on Saturday, Lady Gaga said: ‘I was nobody when she was first coming out. I would be on the street and people would go "Amy"'.

‘I just remember feeling like I wasn't alone because she was so different.’

The Born This Way singer made the comments during an interview on U.S. radio show, Omaha 94.1 Radio yesterday.
