It was a soggy night for style at the Baftas

Yes, it was raining. Yes, it was freezing. But these women have limos, and someone to hold an umbrella above their lovely heads.
They don’t have to purchase their gowns, they merely borrow them. So why was the fashion at the Baftas such a wash-out?
What these female movie stars don’t seem to understand is that it is their job not just to act in movies, but to cheer the rest of us up.
Could do better: Helena Bonham Carter in Vivienne Westwood looked positively predictable, while Jessica Alba's sky-blue dress looked totally out of place
Quite a few outfits made me mutter softly, ‘Oh dear.’
Take Helena Bonham Carter’s black Vivienne Westwood creation. Predictable. Which is the last thing I thought I’d ever say about a woman whose style is normally so adventurous. And how many birds were nesting in that hair?
Tilda Swinton’s man’s tuxedo? Ditto. Jessica Alba’s strapless Versace dress the colour of a summer sky? Totally out of place.
And why did our British stars not wear British designers?
Disappointing: Tilda Swinton's man's tuxedo was uninspiring and although Emma Watson looked like a beautiful fairy in her Valentino gown, why on earth didn't she select a British designer to showcase?
But she should have worn a British label like Burberry.
And why on earth was she wearing such extravagantly false eyelashes? (She admitted it took her three hours to get ready, which is surely far too long for such a very young and naturally-beautiful woman).
For me, it was Gemma Arterton who stole the show in black YSL, but couldn’t she have found something by Alexander McQueen, or Stella McCartney?
Best of British: Gemma Arterton stole the show in black YSL but couldn't she have something by Alexander McQueen or Stella McCartney?
And I couldn’t help but notice how tiny all these stars are up close. No wonder they froze.
I didn’t see one voluptuous body all night. I became so bored by the lack of imagination in the sartorial choices I started to count ribs.
