Hollywood legend: Zsa Zsa Gabor in The Queen Of Outer Space in 1958
Prince Frederic von Anhalt, the star’s ninth husband, said the couple are trying to use his sperm, an egg donor and a surrogate mother in a bid to have a child together.
The 67-year-old was pictured visiting a Beverly Hills fertility clinic this week, where it is claimed that he gave sperm and blood samples. He says the process is under way to find a donor and surrogate mother.
Von Anhalt claims that he and Miss Gabor had always wanted a baby and that the pair discussed the matter again when the Hungarian-born veteran actress had her leg partially amputated in January.
Miss Gabor, who struggles to talk following a number serious health scares in recent years, has been unable to walk since a 2002 car accident. She was even read the last rites in November last year following serious complications after a hip replacement.
But German-born von Anhalt – who himself was hospitalised after he collapsed while visiting his wife in hospital in February – insisted she understood his baby plans.
‘She shakes her head, or she smiles, or she makes a bad face,’ he said. ‘But I know she likes the idea.’
Revealing the procedure would cost about £61,000, he countered suggestions his wife was in no fit state to parent a child, saying: ‘I’m a retired guy. I can take care of it.’
He went on: ‘If she dies before me, then I’ve nothing to live for. In life, you need something to live for.’
‘Even though we won’t be using any of her eggs, she would be thrilled to know I’m going through with this,’ he told celebrity website TMZ.

But Miss Gabor’s only child, Francesca Hilton, expressed her revulsion at the plan by declaring: ‘That’s just weird.’
The 64-year-old, whose father is hotel magnate Conrad Hilton, then issued a statement via her publicist saying she is ‘shocked but not surprised that von Anhalt continually creates publicity for himself at the expense of the legacy of Zsa Zsa Gabor’.
Bad idea: All the claims have come from her husband as Gabor is unable to speak out
He said: ‘She’s not involved in the family, she doesn’t know what’s going on.’
Last night, a fertility law expert in Los Angeles told the Mail it would be ‘almost impossible’ for the couple to have a child through a surrogate mother, given their age and the actress’s health.
Richard Vaughn, a partner at the International Fertility Law Group, added: 'Although there is no actual law stipulating an age limit, their trouble will be finding a clinic who is willing to work with them.
‘Both parties would have to be assessed separately.
‘The other problem is finding an egg donor as well as a surrogate mother willing to help them.
'Given their age and the health of Miss Gabor, this is unlikely.’
Miss Gabor, as infamous for her long career as her flamboyant lifestyle and multiple marriages, was briefly hospitalised last month following the death of her friend Elizabeth Taylor.
