Victoria Beckham's designs may be popping up all over the red carpet but from £3,000, her dresses aren't exactly purse-friendly.

So it's no surprise the designer has decided to launch a range of more affordable collection.

Victoria by Victoria Beckham will hit stores as part of the Spring 2012 collection and dresses range from £375 to £995.

Inspiration: Victoria based the collection on outfits worn by cartoon character Emily the Strange"

Inspired by comic book character Emily The Strange, the 60s-style bright dresses are described by Posh as 'girly'.

The designs feature prints, scalloped-edging and pleats.

Perhaps the mother-of-three, expecting a girl this year, has also been inspired by the pending arrival of her daughter.

She said: ‘One of my team said "It would be funny if you found out you were having a girl." Because this is the most girly collection I’ve ever created.'

But it's not the first time the cartoon has provided inspiration.

In 2003, V magazine ran an editorial of clothing inspired by the character, created by designers including Chanel, Gautier, Helmut Lang and Marc Jacobs.

She told WWD: 'The perfect little summer dress, something that was fun, something that was girly, something that was easy to wear, something that would take you from day through the night.

'I’m opening these designs to women and girls of all different shapes and sizes, people who maybe want something less tight and clingy and structured.

'It also makes it more comfortable for during the day. You can wear them with a pair of flats or a pair of heels and they look great.'
