First Lady favourite: Michelle Obama in J Crew on the Tonight Show in 2008;
It's a favourite with Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey. Now J Crew is set to take centre stage on the style circuit as it prepares to host its first runway show at New York Fashion Week.
The announcement was made yesterday on a preliminary schedule released by Mercedes-Benz, which sponsors the biannual event.
It will join high-end labels including Calvin Klein, Michael Kors and Donna Karan, which will also be presenting their spring/summer 2012 collections next month.
Lisa Hollada, of Mercedes-Benz USA, told NBC New York: 'This season's diverse lineup of designers is a testament to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and Lincoln Center's ability to create a world stage for the fashion industry to showcase everyone from well established brands to future stars.'
J Crew follows in the footsteps of British brands Topshop and Jaeger, which have become key fixtures at London Fashion Week where they show premium collections.
And given that the brand regularly hires some of the world's most well-known models for its lookbooks and campaigns, the September 13 catwalk show promises to be one of New York Fashion Week's hottest tickets.
Industry favourite Arizona Muse stars in the label's current catalogue, while Crystal Renn modelled this summer's swimwear. And next season's lookbook features Liu Wen and Jacquelyn Jablonski.
Given this impressive roll-call, one can only imagine the all-star names set to walk the runway.
One thing for sure is that the fashion will be worth watching. The national retailer, which is currently expanding its empire into the UK, is a favourite for its accessible prices and trend-led designs.

Creative director Jenna Lyons, who joined the company a year ago, has been credited with transforming its image.
She became something of a celebrity in her own right after appearing on Oprah just a month after her appointment, and Michelle Obama and her daughters regularly wear J Crew for public appearances.
The television show host admitted she'd been inspired by the First Lady: 'When I saw the First Lady, even before she became the First Lady, wearing J Crew - full disclosure here - I went and bought some J Crew stock. And that was a very good decision.'
