Queen avoids her own Michelle Obama moment as she wears bow-trimmed hair net to Chelsea Flower Show

Perhaps she had seen Michelle Obama's blowdry fall victim to the strong winds in Dublin earlier that day - or maybe this was simply an avant-garde fashion statement.
Whatever it was, Her Majesty caused quite a stir yesterday when she made an appearance at the Chelsea Flower Show with a bow-trimmed hair net perching atop her trademark silver curls.

Attending the Royal Horticultural Society’s flagship event, the Queen chose not to wear one of the colourful creations from her extensive hat collection, instead accessorising her powder blue coat and floral dress with the embellished net.

The Queen's choice of headgear, more commonly worn behind closed doors to keep rollers or a shampoo and set in place, cause much confusion among onlookers, with some joking that she should 'sell the offending article on eBay and have the milliner sent to the Tower'.

It is understood the net was designed by the Queen's in-house team at Buckingham Palace led by the Queen’s dresser Angela Kelly.
A Buckingham Palace spokesman added: ‘It wasn’t a fascinator. It was definitely a net. I think it was a pragmatic choice as it was fairly windy down there.’
Perhaps Her Majesty could offer the First Lady some of her fashion-forward hair nets as a state gift when she arrives at Buckingham Palace later today.
