As daughter Melissa Rivers prepared for her mother's funeral service - expected to be held in New York on Sunday - dozens of mourners assembled out front of the 81-year-old's Upper East Side apartment, leaving behind a trove of flowers, photos and cards, most of which thanked the veteran comedienne for making people smile.
Among the gatherers was Rivers' Fashion Police co-star Giuliana Rancic and her husband Bill, who arrived carrying a bag of orchards and two large cardboard boxes.
Rancic said she felt fortunate to have know Rivers, who many have remarked that, beyond her acerbic exterior and rambunctious persona, was extremely warm and gracious.
